Oregon Coast

We have gone to the Oregon coast the last two weekends with very different weather. The first weekend we went to Pacific City to meet some friends for crabbing. The weather was gorgeous: sunny and high 80s to low 90s with no humidity.  We walked out on the beach and I couldn't believe there was no one around! In Wilmington the beaches would have been packed with weather like that! It was also Jonathan's first view of the pacific ocean, I think he was impressed.

Look how open and barren the beach is? Where is everyone?
There wasn't even parking meter which is unheard of on the NC coast! Another surprise on the coast was the horses. People bring them and ride on the beach and even take them in the water.

Our second weekend to the coast was not so perfect weather. We came to Newport Oregon to celebrate our one year anniversary.  We stayed right on the beach in a cute little cottage which had a sauna and a jacuzzi tub. We went to Rogue Brewery which originated there. It was good but overpriced for a brewery.

We also went to the aquarium which has underwater tunnels where you can see sharks swimming all around you.

The aquarium also had seals and sea lions which put on a show at feeding time. One of them got put in a time out when it miss behaved for the trainer.

You can also see seals on the bay front sunbathing on the docks.

To celebrate our anniversary we had the last left over bottle of champagne from our wedding. I had wanted to serve it with our cute painted toasting glasses one of my friends had given me for our wedding day and the top layer of our cake. But practicality of bringing a frozen cake on a cross country trip and/or shipping it across the country was unreasonable so we just had the champagne and the glasses.  I had so proudly wrapped those glasses in a separate box before beginning our trip out west convincing myself that it was a practical and necessary item to have.  I even made sure that box was in the car before beginning our drive to the coast. About 40 minutes outside of town I realized we had not packed the correct box but rather we had packed a small box with a single bottle of beer that we had planned to ship to some friends back East but then decided against it when we learned that shipping the $8 bottle of beer would be $30 plus the $5 for the box. Luckily the house we were rented had glasses we could use.
